43 Medical Colleges Added, 11,682 MBBS Seats Cleared for 2025–26: Health Ministry

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has approved 43 new medical colleges and 11,682 additional MBBS seats for the academic session 2025–26 to strengthen medical education capacity in India.

The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has announced that 43 new medical colleges have been approved, along with 11,682 additional MBBS seats for the 2025–26 academic session.

The information was shared in Parliament as part of efforts to expand medical education infrastructure and increase the number of trained doctors in the country. The expansion aims to address the growing demand for healthcare professionals and improve access to medical education.

With the addition of these new colleges and seats, the government hopes to strengthen India’s healthcare workforce and provide more opportunities for students aspiring to pursue medical education.

Officials noted that the expansion will also support the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) system, which serves as the primary entrance examination for undergraduate medical courses across India.

The move is part of a broader initiative by the central government to increase medical college capacity and improve healthcare infrastructure nationwide.
