Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that the Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor will be launched in two phases from May. The corridor will be inaugurated in May and then in July, with the additional service expected to further reduce the burden on the existing system.

Fadnavis stated that expansion of Metro services was one of the top priorities of his government, and that Maharashtra was the first state in the country to formulate a policy for Global Capacity Centres (GCC). He also announced plans to expand the Metro network by 200 kilometres in Pune, with a comprehensive plan to be prepared by MahaMetro.

The Hinjewadi-Shivajinagar corridor runs for 23 kilometres and will have 23 stations. The project is being implemented by the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).
