IIT Bombay, Honeywell to Set Up Centre of Excellence for Sustainability Skills; Offer Certificate Programmes

Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has collaborated with Honeywell to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) for sustainability skills and innovation. The initiative is designed to strengthen industry-academia collaboration and prepare students with practical knowledge in sustainability and environmental management.

The centre plans to train over 100,000 students by the year 2030, offering specialised certificate-based programmes that combine academic knowledge with industry insights. The programme aims to equip learners with skills needed to address emerging sustainability challenges across sectors.

According to the announcement, the training programmes will focus on five major learning tracks:

Sustainability reporting

Sustainable finance

Energy security

Sustainability infrastructure

Policy advocacy

These courses will help students understand the practical aspects of sustainability, including how organisations measure environmental impact, develop sustainable infrastructure, and implement responsible financial strategies.

Experts believe that initiatives like this Centre of Excellence will help students build future-ready skills in sustainability, climate action, and responsible business practices, areas that are becoming increasingly important for industries worldwide.

The collaboration also highlights the growing role of industry partnerships with academic institutions in preparing students for emerging global challenges related to sustainability and environmental responsibility.
