IIT Delhi’s Jhajjar campus expansion shelved after technical survey flags weak soil, waterlogging: Govt
IIT Delhi's Jhajjar campus expansion has been shelved due to weak soil and waterlogging issues, as per the government's technical survey.
IIT Delhi's Jhajjar campus expansion has been put on hold due to technical issues. The 50-acre land allocated for the campus has been found to have weak soil and waterlogging problems, making it unfit for construction. The campus was planned as a healthcare hub with a focus on cancer research. The Sonipat campus, however, remains functional with research facilities, including laboratories and a High Performance Computational Facility. The government's decision to abandon the Jhajjar campus was made after a technical survey revealed that the land's load-bearing capacity was too low due to its topography and waterlogging. The campus was initially proposed in 2022, and a workshop was held with AIIMS in 2023 to start a joint PhD program. The Sonipat campus, on the other hand, has 35 sophisticated facilities valued at approximately Rs 190 crore, supporting research in various fields.
